Datuk Seri Abu Bakar Abdullah will be PSD DG from July 1
Abu Bakar, 55, succeeds Tan Sri Ismail Adam, 60, whose tenure ends on June 20.
Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Sidek Hassan said in a statement here today that the appointment had received the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong who acted on the advice of the prime minister.
He said Abu Bakar was selected based on his experience, expertise and integrity to raise the performance of the civil service through various reforms and approaches.
Abu Bakar holds a master's degree in International Studies from the University of Denver, United States, and a bachelor's degree in History from Universiti Malaya.
He started service on Sept 19, 1977, and had served as deputy secretary-general in the Federal Territories Ministry, Prime Minister's
Department and Defence Ministry.

Sidek said he was confident that Abu Bakar had the ability to lead the PSD, especially in realising the objectives of the fourth Strategic Thrust of the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP) to develop and retain a first-world talent base.
He also recorded his appreciation to Ismail for his 38 years' contributions to the civil service and the country.-- Bernama
